Buttermilk Biscuits

cooked biscuits in a pile on a wooden board

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups BOB'S RED MILL unbleached white pastry flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, very cold
  • 1 cup SACO PANTRY buttermilk (follow package directions to make 1 cup liquid buttermilk)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450F. In mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Using fork, blend small pieces of butter into flour mixture, such that the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk. Mix gently. Place dough on floured board. Handle as little as possible. Press dough out gently until about half an inch thick. Fold dough about five times. Press out dough until it is between half inch to an inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place on oiled floured baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes, until light golden brown.

Makes about 6 to 8 biscuits.
